Market value is live: see what your wine collection is worth
Market value is now live in Selara Sommelier: your cellar's estimated worth, most valuable holdings and top gains, plus prices, critic scores and windows.
Market value is now live in Selara Sommelier. Open your cellar and you'll see what your wine collection is worth, which bottles carry the most value, and where your best gains are.
If you've wondered what your collection is worth today, you know the answer used to take an evening of looking bottles up one by one. Now it's already in your cellar.
What it is
Market value adds three views of your collection:
- Your total cellar value, an estimated market value for everything you hold, with the date of the latest figures
- Your most valuable holdings, the bottles and lots that make up the most of that value
- Your top gains, where today's estimate has risen furthest above what you paid
Alongside those, you'll see your known cost basis and the overall difference between cost and estimated value. If some positions have dipped, there's a list for those too, because a clear picture includes both directions.
Every wine gets a fuller profile
Each wine also gets its own market snapshot:
- An average retail price, with the low and high of the retail range
- A critic score, with a short summary of what the critics said
- Grape and style details
- A price history that adds a point each time the wine's price is updated
- Your position, comparing what you paid for this wine with its latest estimate
Drinking-window data also feeds the maturity curve on each wine's page, which shows where a bottle sits today and how its window opens and closes over time. That makes it easier to decide what to open this year and what to keep resting.
How it works
Retail prices and critic scores come from wineapi.io. Drinking windows, grapes and style come from GrapeMinds.
Selara Sommelier stores those figures on each wine in your cellar and refreshes them periodically in the background. That keeps pages quick. Every figure shows the date it was last updated, so you always know how fresh it is.
When market value first fills in for a large cellar, the details arrive in stages. Drinking windows, grapes and style usually come first. Retail prices and critic scores take longer, and for a big collection it can take up to about a week before every bottle is covered. If you want one wine's figures now, open it and fetch its market value straight away.
Gains depend on knowing what you paid. If you recorded a purchase price when you imported or added a bottle, Selara Sommelier compares it with the current estimate. Bottles without a purchase price still count toward your total value and sit out of the gains list. The dashboard shows how many of your valued bottles have a cost on record.
Who gets it
Market value is included in Grand Cru and Grand Cru Exceptionnel.
While Selara Sommelier is in its final stages of beta testing, every user is invited to use the free Beta tier, which includes everything in Grand Cru Exceptionnel. That includes market value, so you can try it today. Changing tiers later won't affect your wine data.
Market value isn't part of Premier Cru. If you're on Premier Cru, you can upgrade from your account at any time. Compare the plans.
Why it matters to collectors
Knowing what your wine is worth changes the conversations you have about it. It helps you decide which bottles to open and which to hold, and it helps you notice when a corner of the cellar has become its most valuable part.
If you sell, it pairs well with the sell ledger on Grand Cru and above, which tracks bottles through to-sell and sold, with proceeds, realized gains and CSV or PDF export. For more on running a large collection, read wine cellar management for serious collectors.
A note on the numbers
These figures are personal estimates for planning conversations about your own cellar. They are not an appraisal, insurance valuation or tax advice. You'll see a similar note in the product alongside market value.
Try it now
Open your cellar and look at the dashboard, then open the wine you're most curious about. If your collection isn't in Selara Sommelier yet, bring in your spreadsheet or switch from another cellar app. Market value will start filling in once your bottles arrive.
