Selara Sommelier plans explained: Premier Cru, Grand Cru, Grand Cru Exceptionnel and Beta

Choosing a plan is easier when you can see everything in one place. This post lays out every Selara Sommelier plan, what it costs and what it includes, using the figures on our pricing page. Then it walks through who each plan suits, so you can pick one with confidence.

Selara Sommelier is in the final stages of beta testing, and every user is invited to use the free Beta tier, which includes everything in our highest tier. You can try the whole product today at no cost.

The plans at a glance

Selara Sommelier has three plans, plus the Beta tier. The pricing page sums them up this way:

Premier Cru for simpler collections. Grand Cru for large numbers of bottles, multiple locations, and advanced AI features. Grand Cru Exceptionnel for unlimited bottles, locations, and heaviest use of Selara Sommelier's AI.

Monthly or annual billing

The paid plans can be billed monthly or annually. Annual billing costs ten times the monthly price, so you pay for ten months and get twelve. The pricing page labels that "Save 17%". Grand Cru is $300 a year instead of $360 on monthly billing, and Grand Cru Exceptionnel is $500 a year instead of $600.

The free plans are free either way.

A few of those rows deserve a word of explanation.

• Storage bin depth is how many levels of storage you can nest inside a location. A depth of 0 means flat storage. A depth of 3 lets you go Room, then Rack, then Slot.
• Custom taxonomy lets you design your own way of grouping the cellar. Every plan includes two built-in views, Restaurant Wine List and Auction House.
• Sell ledger tracks bottles through to-sell and sold, with proceeds and realized gains, and exports to CSV and PDF.
• Market value shows an estimate of your cellar's total value, your most valuable holdings and your top gains. The figures are personal estimates, not an appraisal, an insurance valuation or tax advice.
• Label deep fill researches the details that aren't printed on a label.
• Origins map plots your holdings on a world map by producer.
• Household sharing lets you add delegates to help manage your collection.
• Spatial bins give each storage location a visual map, so you can see where your wines sit in the room.

Premier Cru, the free plan

Premier Cru is free. Its plan card lists:

• Up to 100 bottles
• One cellar location
• Up to 8 uses per month of Selara Sommelier's AI, our advanced AI system for handling everything in your cellar
• Tastes of the advanced recommendation model

It includes the core of Selara Sommelier, which means the cellar book, importing, and staging bottles for occasions. You get the same import limit as every other plan, plus the Restaurant Wine List and Auction House views, voice support and the iPhone app.

Premier Cru suits a first collection, a single wine fridge, or anyone who wants a tidy record of a smaller cellar. If you're new to collecting, our post on starting your first wine collection is a good companion.

Grand Cru, for larger cellars

Grand Cru is $30/mo billed monthly, or $300/yr billed annually. It's the plan marked "Recommended" on the pricing page. Its plan card lists:

• Up to 1,500 bottles
• Up to 3 locations
• Generous usage of Selara Sommelier's AI for handling everything in your cellar
• Advanced AI integration in the recommendation model

Beyond the card, Grand Cru adds nested bins up to three levels deep, custom taxonomies, the sell ledger, market value, label deep fill and the Origins map.

Grand Cru suits a collection that has grown beyond a hundred bottles or into more than one place, such as a home cellar plus a wine fridge plus off-site storage. Grand Cru Exceptionnel, for the largest cellars

Grand Cru Exceptionnel is $50/mo billed monthly, or $500/yr billed annually. Its plan card lists:

• Unlimited number of bottles
• Unlimited number of locations
• Unlimited use of Selara Sommelier's AI
• Use of household sharing to add delegates to help manage your collection

It includes everything in Grand Cru, with storage nesting up to ten levels deep and spatial bins.

Grand Cru Exceptionnel suits a collection beyond 1,500 bottles or spread across more than three places, collectors who use the AI heavily, and households where more than one person looks after the wine. For more on running a cellar at that scale, read wine cellar management for serious collectors.

The free Beta tier

The Beta tier is free. The pricing page explains it like this:

As we're currently in the final stages of beta testing, all users are invited to use the free Beta tier, which has all the capabilities and privileges of our highest tier, Grand Cru Exceptionnel. When testing is over, changing your account tier will not affect your work. Your wine data will still be there.

In the comparison table, Beta matches Grand Cru Exceptionnel on every row. During beta, it's the plan to start with. On the pricing page, the Beta card is the one you can choose today.

How to choose

You can work it out from three questions.

1. How many bottles do you have, or expect to have soon? Up to 100 fits Premier Cru. Up to 1,500 fits Grand Cru. Beyond that, Grand Cru Exceptionnel.
2. How many places do you store wine? One location fits Premier Cru. Up to three fits Grand Cru. More than three, or storage you want to map in detail, points to Grand Cru Exceptionnel.
3. Which features matter to you? Market value, the sell ledger, custom taxonomies, label deep fill and the Origins map start at Grand Cru. Household sharing, spatial bins and unlimited AI come with Grand Cru Exceptionnel.

If you're not sure, start on Beta while it's available. You'll see every feature with your own wine, and you'll know by the end of it which ones you use.

Bringing your collection with you

Whichever plan you choose, getting your wine in works the same way. Every plan has the same import limit of 10,000 rows and 25 MB per file, and you can also add wine from a label photo or an invoice.
